Further enhancement of product development power and reliability

Our company will substantially reinforce air conditioner test facility in the head office (KawasakiCity) in order to further enhance the technical development power of air conditioner which is our core business. Furthermore, we completed an R & D Center in March this year in Fujitsu General (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., one of our main air conditioner factories, to reinforce the development and test facility in China. Through this reinforcement, we are aiming to further enhance technical development power and reliability and expand business in the world market as an integrated air conditioner manufacturer dealing with wide range of products from small room air conditioner for home use (thereinafter "RAC") to large package air conditioner for commercial and building use (thereinafter "PAC").
The world demand for air conditioners has increased to about 58 million units in 2004, up 6.9% from previous year, with both RAC and PAC expanding year by year. Meanwhile, a higher grade of technical development power is required for manufacturers to cope with the demand for considerable improvement in environmental measures such as energy saving designing of air conditioner with electricity conditions and global worming issue as background.
Our company, now having 4 bases of air conditioner development in Kawasaki and Hamamatsu in Japan, Shanghai in China and Chonburi in Thailand, will reinforce the development facilities in Kawasaki and Shanghai investing total 900 million yen to cope with the needs of the market promptly.
In the development base in Kawasaki, we will renovate and reinforce about 20 facilities including latest test facilities such as the industry's largest class of "environment test room" with test chamber of about 35m² and top class of "noise test room" and at the same time, promote centralized control and automation by adopting IT-equipped test room by September this year.
In the Shanghai development base, we introduced the latest facilities such as "calorie meter", "EMC test room" together with the newly built R & D Center of 2,000m² which enables us to develop state-of-the-art products.
We will further enhance our capability to tackle environmental issue and develop excellent products by strengthening technical development power in the field of air conditioner business and push forward the world-wide expansion of air conditioner business more positively than ever.

Reinforcement of Kawasaki development base (to be completed in September, 2005)
The research and development facility of the Kawasaki development base will be reinforced as a development base of state-of-the-art technology to foster our future air conditioner business including environment-oriented technology such as energy-saving performance and technology to realize higher grade of amenity.
We will newly build latest test facility such as "environment test room" and "noise test room" to facilitate high level of analysis of energy-saving performance and amenity and at the same time, considerably reinforce evaluation facility by promoting IT-equipped test room to realize higher grade of analysis technology. Furthermore, we will accelerate the development speed of state-of-the-art technology and global product development through centralized control and automation of test room.
Newly building industry's top class of "environment test room" and "noise test room" to pursue the highest level of energy-saving performance and amenity.
We built 2 sets of "environment test room" to analyze 3 air conditioning elements of temperature, humidity and air current in actual use condition by computer together with power consumption and pursue higher energy-saving performance and amenity. One of them is equipped with industry's largest class of test chamber of about 35m² so as to cope with the expanded demand for large capacity air conditioner due to the trend of large living room.
Also, a "noise test room" was newly built to be able to measure more exactly the operating noise of air conditioner and analyze the noise under the echo condition (condition of sound reflection) assuming actual house. Especially, dark noise*1 is of the industry's top level of performance as 12dB in actual measurement controlling in detail temperature and humidity corresponding to actual use condition. By this, subtle sound such as motor vibration noise generated from main unit of air conditioner can be analyzed in detail, and further improvement of low noise technology and sound quality technology can be realized.
Furthermore, through the reinforcement of facility such as "calorie meter for large air conditioning equipment" we will further enhance the development power of state-of-the-art technology and reliability to be applied for the range of products from RAC to PAC.

Noise test room
Substantially strengthening evaluation facility by adopting IT-equipped test room to realize higher level of analysis technology.
We have realized high level of analysis technology to pursue energy-saving performance and amenity by substantially strengthening evaluation facility to computerize all test data and process and analyze images by computer in addition to the simulation technology such as air current analysis, heat analysis, vibration analysis, magnetic field analysis which has been strengthened so far.
Promoting centralized control and automation (24 hour operation) of test facility to cut down the development lead time by half.
We have rearranged about 20 test facilities, which were scattered in the office building, gathering in one floor with a space of 3,000m2 for more efficient utilization and also introduced latest facility to further enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the test. Furthermore, we made 24 hour operation of the facility possible by centralized control and automation of the test work. By this, we will cut down the development time by half for speedier product development.

We completed an R & D Center in March, 2005 with latest development facilities such as "EMC test room", "Calorie mater", "CAD" in the premise of Fujitsu General (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., one of our main air conditioner factories.
With the introduction of such facilities, local engineering staff and head office engineering staff will promote technical interchange positively and develop latest inverter models in China to realize prompt product strategy.
Under this development strategy, our air conditioner division will develop globally and speedily competitive products provided with high level of amenity coping with environmental issue such as energy-saving performance at four development bases including Hamamatsu and Thailand along with Kawasaki and Shanghai.
